Going through a divorce is tough enough. But what if your situation is complicated by problems that have nothing to do with your divorce or child custody issues?
Many people must do the metaphorical equivalent of “walking and chewing gum at the same time.” In our last post, we discussed how to get divorced while dealing with a parent’s health problems. Today, we’ll address another common situation: how to manage your life, when your business becomes chaotic while you’re divorcing.
First of all, financial crises and personal crises often come packaged together. When things get rough at home, work issues often get worse, and vice versa. In fact, financial problems at work can create problems at home, and domestic discontent can create problems at work
So what should you be doing?
- Try to get other people to support you at work. For instance, ask a partner to manage the chaos in the office, while you take care of finalizing the divorce.
- To the extent that you can, eliminate other distractions, so that you can manage the twin crises at work and at home. For instance, avoid taking on an adventurous new project at work or getting involved with your friend’s alcoholism treatment. Minimize all extra commitments for the time being.
- Get excellent legal assistance with respect to your divorce.
