Right now, you’re focused on an imminent child custody or visitation battle. You want to preserve your rights to spend quality time with your kids and to nurture and support them. However, while you wage this battle, you might find it useful to think ahead and consider the end goal. Once you win time with your children, how will you use that time to best effect?
In this post and a few to follow, we will explore this topic.
First of all, plan for your visits.
Let’s say that you and the other parent wind up splitting time and visitation fairly evenly. Maybe you get the children from Sunday to Wednesday, and your ex gets the kids from Thursday to Saturday. To make good use of your time, plan ahead. Do you know your children’s favorite meals? If so, cook them and freeze them in advance. That way, you won’t have to spend your time together cooking – you can socialize and just be with them.
Don’t overschedule visits or make them unnatural. But some preplanning can actually make your experiences more spontaneous. Instead of wasting time wondering what to do or vamping while they watch TV, choose from a preselected menu of ideas and get a little spontaneous.
